PaganFM! almanac for September 28. 2008

 WX

Today is Sunday the 28th of September, it’s the 272nd day of the year.

The moon is in Virgo at the moment, will be void of course at 1:31 pm, and enters Libra at 4:05 pm.

On Monday, the New Moon is at 4:12 am.

On Tuesday, the moon will be void of course at 9:47 pm.

Tuesday is also Rosh Hashanah, or the “head of the year”. It is known by most of us as “Jewish New Year”, and it is the first day of the High Holidays, or Yamim Noraim, the Days of Awe. It is on this day that the fates of individuals are set down. Those who are righteous have their names inscribed in the book of life. Those who are not yet righteous enough are given a period of ten days, until Yom Kippur to repent. Those who are found wicked are “blotted out of the book of the living”.

Tuesday is also the beginning of the Celtic Tree month of Ivy.

Wednesday, October 1, marks the birthday of Isaac Bonewits. Isaac is one of the more influential authors in the Neo-Pagan movement, and an early leader. Having joined the Reformed Druids of North America in 1966, and involved in various traditions and paths, his extensive experience has raised him up as a well-rounded leader. He has written on many subjects in Druidism, Neopaganism and Wicca.

The moon will enter Scorpio at 12:26 am.

Thursday marks the end of Ramadan, and the firth of Timothy Roderick, an English Traditional Wiccan, and author of such books as Dark Moon Mysteries and Apprentice to Power.

The moon will be void of Course at 6:46 pm.

On Friday, the moon will enter Sagittarius at 11:14 am.

Saturday, October 4 marks the anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s signing JR-165, which made 1993 the “Year of the Bible.

Congress Declares

The Bible "The Word  of God"

[S.J.Res. 165]

Public Law 97-280

97th Congress  96 Stat. 1211

October 4, 1982

Joint Resolution authorizing and requesting the President to proclaim 1983 as the "Year of the Bible."

Whereas the Bible, the Word of God, has made a unique contribution in shaping the United States as a distinctive and blessed nation and people;

Whereas deeply held religious convictions springing from the Holy Scriptures led to the early settlement of our Nation;

Whereas Biblical teachings inspired concepts of civil government that are contained in our Declaration of Independence and the constitution of the United States;

Whereas many of our great national leaders-among them Presidents Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, and Wilson-paid tribute to the surpassing influence of the Bible in our country's development, as the words of President Jackson that the Bible is "the rock on which our Republic rests";

Whereas the history of our Nation clearly illustrates the value of voluntarily applying the teachings of the Scriptures in the lives of individuals, families, and societies;

Whereas this Nation now faces great challenges that will test this Nation as it has never been tested before; and

Whereas that renewing our knowledge of and faith in God through Holy Scripture can strengthen us as a nation and a people: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the President is authorized and requested to designate 1983 as a national "Year of the Bible" in recognition of both the formative influence the Bible has been for our Nation, and our national need to study and apply the teachings of the Holy Scriptures.

Approved October 4, 1982.

It’s strange … and I thought that there was to be a separation of Church and State …. Maybe we could get a “Year of Pagan thought”? Maybe not.

Ongoing, weekly:

Prayer Requests

Every Sunday

Time: 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Location: Your own home

Notes: Please answer this request post stating your reason for healing energy and/or prayers sent your way. Prayer requests can be asked for other than healing and for other than yourself.

A white candle will be lit for you on Sunday unless you request another color to be used. This is a group event so the more people involved the better. Feel free to join sending out energy. Always keep in mind that requests are always done for the highest good of all concerned. This may mean the outcome may be different than we hope for. The spiritual healing work we do is designed to work in harmony with other treatment modalities, not as a subsitute.
