And Welcome to the PaganFM! almanac for the week of October 5, 2008.

WX

It is Sunday, October 5, the 279th day of the year.

Today the1st quarter moon is void of course at 9:08 pm, and enters Capricorn at 11:48 pm.

Tuesday, October 7, the moon enters the second quarter at 5:04 am, and is void of course at 3:37 pm.

Tuesday is also the birthday of Arnold Crowther, who was a stage magician and Gardnerian Witch. He was born, October 7, 1909, one of a pair of fraternal twins, to a Scottish mother and English father, in Chestham, Kent.

Crowther, who was always interested in sleight of hand and magic, met Gerald Gardner shortly before world war 2. Gardner, being secretive about the craft did not initiate Crowther for fear of the possible publicity that might ensue if Crowther were to use witchcraft during his stage act. (The final laws against witchcraft were not repealed until some time later.)

Eventually, Crowther met Patricia Dawson, who initiated him into the craft. They married in 1960 and became outspoken proponents of the craft.

Prior to his death on Beltane in 1974, Crowther and his wife Patricia authored numerous articles and a radio series.  He also produced a number of other books that dealt with such various subjects as stage magic, road safety for children and an autobiography.

On Wednesday, the moon enters Aquarius at 12:03 pm.

Thursday, October 9 is Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, the end of the “Days of Awe, the most sacred days, which began on Rosh Hashanah. These are the most sacred days in the Jewish calendar.

On Friday, the moon will be void of course at 7:13 pm, and enters Pisces at 9:31 pm.

Looking ahead at our calendar,

Ongoing, weekly:

Prayer Requests

Every Sunday
Time: 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Location: Your own home
Notes: Please answer this request post stating your reason for healing energy and/or prayers sent your way. Prayer requests can be asked for other than healing and for other than yourself.
A white candle will be lit for you on Sunday unless you request another color to be used. This is a group event so the more people involved the better. Feel free to join sending out energy. Always keep in mind that requests are always done for the highest good of all concerned. This may mean the outcome may be different than we hope for. The spiritual healing work we do is designed to work in harmony with other treatment modalities, not as a subsitute.

Samhain! All Hallow's Eve Ritual

All Hallow’s Eve is upon us as the Wheel of the Year winds down. This is a night where we traditionally honor our ancestors and contemplate the lives of past loved ones. Come. Join us and honor your loved ones, your ancestors as we learn about Innana, the Queen of Heaven and her journey into the Underworld. Discover why and how she made the descent down to the Land of the Dead. Find out how her journey can be interpreted as lesson that teaches us that death is but a passageway to a new cycle of life. Join us for a powerful, special ritual of the Wheel of the Year: We will be entering the Darkness - metaphorically and literally as we work toward balance.

Uncanoonuc Circle is an open, eclectic Neo-Pagan group. We gather to celebrate the eight Sabbats in the Wheel of the Year with rituals open to the public. Since we are an eclectic group, each ritual we do is unique with a different focus as we try to hit upon the variety that exists. All the topics of the Sabbats are family friendly. Uncanoonuc CUUPS also performs serious energy work at the Esbats.

If you are looking for a new home, come and visit. If you wish to remain solitary yet need a connection with others or if you simply do not have the energy to celebrate on your own, then come! You will be welcomed.

Keep your calendar open for November 2. Wendy Rule will be in Manchester, sponsored by New England Pagans and Witches.

Sunday, December 21, we'll celebrate Yule, or the Winter Solstice. In honor of that day, we'll celebrate the solstice, here at PaganFM! You're invited to attend a solstice ritual right here at the station. We'll have the ritual, then cakes and ale (non-alcoholic), fellowship, and then start the radio program as usual, at midnight. Consider joining us, and send us an email at dee@paganfm.com so that we can know how many people to expect and plan accordingly.

Our poem today is by Dr. Robert Muller, who was the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations for 40 years, former chancellor of the University for Peace in Cuidad Colon, Costa Rica

It’s called “Decide to be Peaceful”, and we found it in an article by James Bean in the latest issue of Inner Tapestry, which is available for free throughout the area.

Decide to be Peaceful

Render others peaceful

Be a model of peace

Irradiate your peace

Love passionately the peace of our beautiful planet

Do not listen to the warmongers, hate-seeders and power seekers

Dream always of a peaceful world

Work always for a peaceful world

Switch on and keep on, in yourself

The positive buttons,

Those marked love, serenity, happiness, truth,

Kindness, friendliness, understanding and tolerance.

Pray and thank God every day for peace

Pray for the United Nations and all peacemakers

Pray for the leaders of nations who hold the peace of the world in their hands

Pray God to let our planet at long last become the Planet of Peace

And Sing in unison with all humanity,

“Let there be  peace on earth and let it begin with me.”
